Our Community Programs

ADAMA initiates and participates in a variety of community programs throughout the year. Every year, we take the time to listen to local needs; understand the gaps; and get involved and support various programs to help the communities that surround us.

2020 presented us and the global community with new challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic that spread quickly around the world, and ADAMA focused extra efforts to support the community and our partners, in every possible way.

In 2020, we had dozens of activities in more than 20 countries that made a significant and meaningful contribution to the lives of thousands of families.

Promoting Healtand Supporh and Supporting Frontline Workers

We rely on frontline workers like doctors and nurses, pharmacists, caregivers, and nursing aides who put their lives on the line to save people suffering from COVID-19. To support the shortages in the hospitals, we donated respirators and oxygen generators to the Yad Sarah medical equipment organization, and made a significant donation of medical equipment to the Kaplan hospital, both in Israel. We also donated life support machinery to the civil hospital of Bergamo, Italy, and provided funds to the state government of Andhra Pradesh Province and the Chief Minister of Gujarat Province in India, where two ADAMA plants are located, to help them fight COVID-19.

We showed our appreciation for the hard work of our frontline workers around the world by supplying personal protective equipment, which had been running short worldwide.

Due to a lack of funds and disrupted supply chains, some areas of the world could not get ahold of essential goods like alcohol hand-gel and disinfectant, so we dedicated manpower, repurposed production lines in our plants in China and Kollant, Italy to manufacture and distribute these goods. We donated 270 tons of sodium hypochlorite disinfectant to local medical agencies, public places, and communities. In addition, we secured and distributed 12,386 medical masks to ADAMA partners and customers in China to help slow down the spread of the coronavirus.

Our policy of caring for healthcare workers stretches around the world. In Brazil, ADAMA branches donated alcohol gel, cleaning materials, emergency equipment, protective equipment like masks, suits, and face shields, and health supplies to local hospitals, charity associations, and pastoral centers near our plants in Taquari and Londrina. Together our efforts were designed to slow down the virus enough to prevent a public health disaster.

Reverse Osmosis Plant in India

Clean and safe drinking water is essential for improving living standards, however it is still not widely available everywhere. ADAMA India donated a water purification plant in Bethamcherala in the Kurnool region, of the state of Andhra Pradesh, that can benefit more than 10,000 people from the surrounding villages. The 1000 liters/hour capacity plant will also supply water to the school in the village, where around 600 children study.

Supporting our Partners

ADAMA continued to stand alongside farmers and local distributors in this difficult year, by sending them masks and sanitary equipment, coffee and food vouchers.

Heavy economic harm to farmers and disadvantaged families due to the COVID-19 crisis motivated us to collaborate with “Leket Israel,” the National Food Bank, for the collection and distribution of fresh produce to people in need.

In routine times, Leket Israel collects and distributes nutritious agricultural produce that is fit for consumption, that would otherwise be wasted, to populations in need. As a result of the coronavirus crisis and its impact on the economy (the closure of hotels, caterers, restaurants, etc.), farmers have been left with huge quantities of surplus agricultural produce and have lost a great deal of money. Together with Leket, we collected and distributed 75,000kg of fruit and vegetables to 30,000 vulnerable families.

Additionally, farmers who participated in this project received funds from ADAMA to cover their growing costs, based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Thanks to our collaboration with Leket, farmers benefited from compensation for their contribution of the produce, which covered their production costs, and more produce became available to reach the growing numbers of people with food insecurity.

Moreover, flower growers had been especially hard hit by the early coronavirus shutdown, so we purchased bouquets from local farms in Israel to send to 1,500 ADAMA colleagues before the Passover holiday, to show our support for our customers and our appreciation for our people at a difficult and worrying time.

Marine Toys for Tots

In North America, our People collected toys for US Marine Corps as part of the Marine Toys for Tots Program, and assembled packages of personal care products for the military.

Welfare Activities for Elderly, Youth-at-Risk, and More

We actively support and contribute to local communities near our sites, conducting continuous dialogue with the local welfare entities to assist the most disadvantaged populations: the needy, elderly, Holocaust survivors, youth-at-risk, and minority populations. The company promotes unique and prestigious programs to support these populations and give them equal opportunities to succeed.

ADAMA donated aid packages with food and personal hygiene items to 570 elderly people, and dozens of packages containing food, toiletries, and children’s games to women and children who fled abusive homes. In India, we’re supporting 400 vulnerable families in the community that lives close to our plant in Dahej, giving them vital food supplies. Our colleagues in Dahej raised funds to provide cooked food to another 200 families nearby. And in Brazil, we’ve given out over 500kg of food so far to people in need.

A Golden Handshake for Society Upliftment

In collaboration with a local school, ADAMA India took under its wing 10 special children who are mentally and physically challenged and come from underprivileged backgrounds. The volunteers from ADAMA take care of their daily needs like food, clothing, shelter and health, and also appointed two specially qualified teachers who take care of their educational requirements. Together they celebrate festivals, birthdays, and bring their passion towards simply uplifting fellow members of their society.

Instituto ADAMA

Instituto ADAMA that was established in 2007, near our site in Brazil, is devoted to providing guided activities for children aged 5 to 18 and their families, with some 40,000 participation opportunities annually. Thousands of young people benefit from this community initiative designed to promote education, culture, and citizenship. Instituto holds various ongoing workshops focused on sports, music, dance, drama, and recycling, as well as a book and toy library, and a teenage foster program. Full-day classes and on-the-job training occur within a formally accredited, year-long apprentice program for 16- to 18-year-olds that takes place at our local offices and is mentored by ADAMA volunteers. Nearly 300 young people have benefited from this apprentice program. The program is regularly evaluated in accordance with predefined KPIs and Individual Development Planning.

Families assisted by Instituto ADAMA in Brazil gave it a Net Promoter Score (satisfaction level) of 96 out of 100.

During 2020, Instituto ADAMA continued with the program remotely and provided supported families in need.

Lycored Connects Heart + Soil

Lycored, an ADAMA subsidiary, invests in its community through its “Heart + Soil” day, which brought together colleagues from around the world and delivered practical benefits to the people living in the communities where Lycored operates.

In Ukraine, the team has built a playpark to support children’s need to get fresh air, play and escape the pressures of living during a global pandemic.

In Schaffhausen, Switzerland, where Lycored is headquartered, the demands on the town’s soup kitchen had increased significantly. The Lycored team spent a day preparing a three-course meal, and then served it to those in need.

In the US, the team distributed vibrant flowers to local nursing homes in pots that they had painted themselves.

Take a break and enjoy the video of the Lycored team singing this moving song especially commissioned from Tennessee-based singer Drew Young, “You Can’t Grow a Forest Without Seeds.”
