Air Quality

We invest extensive resources to mitigate the environmental impact of our production plants on air quality and emission of GHGs. Despite using similar energy amounts per tonne production, we substantially reduced our absolute GHGs emissions over the past 8 years.

We acknowledge the importance of disclosing particulate matter emissions as well and adjust our reporting system accordingly. Particulate matter has an adverse impact on health. Therefore, ADAMA implements the best available technologies to control the risk.

ADAMA operates thermal oxidizers to diminish emissions of organic compounds and boilers to produce steam. These systems include the combustion of Natural Gas and Fuel oil, which emits nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx). ADAMA installed SNCR or NCR systems to reduce NOx and utilize calcium source to mitigate SOx. A decline in SOx and NOx is observed over the past 8 years.

Carbon footprint

During 2020,  the contribution of suppliers and service providers (Scope 3) to ADAMA carbon footprint was quantified. The quantification followed the GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain, Accounting and Reporting Standard. The overall carbon footprint of ADAMA stands on 4,478,169 tons of CO2 where suppliers contribute 68%.

ADAMA continues to shift from highly polluting fossil fuels to natural gas systems, which indirectly reduce GHGs emissions.

Looking Ahead: 2020-2021 Carbon Footprint

ADAMA Agan signed a 25 years BOT (Built, Operate and Transfer) agreement on a 300KW solar roof on its logistic center. Similarly, ADAMA MCW is finalizing the agreement with its electricity and steam supplier to build a 13MW solar farm within the site perimeter.

ADAMA’s hydrogen production capacity is going to increase significantly in the coming years. As hydrogen is a zero GHGS fuel with 3 times energy, ADAMA works to extend the use hydrogen as fuel at its thermal oxidizers, replacing fossil fuels.
